Why is it that literally everyone I’ve met so far in my life, nobody has chapped lips like mine. They don’t even use lip balms and sometimes I see them licking their lips, but their lips are all nice and unchapped. On the other hand, I regularly exfoliate apply lip balm and do all sorts of things, but literally after exfoliating or apply lip balm, my lips already chap like, you can see the dead skin cell layer forming. Natural remedies like oils do NOT work at all in helping my chapped lips, is there anything I can do to stop it from becoming chapped? This is my biggest insecurity and I really do need a solution! Thank you! 1. March 2017

I’m glad you reached out to us! Chronically chapped lips can be very frustrating and life affecting. Chapped lips are typically well controlled with the measures you mentioned. When those normal treatment modalities do not produce the expected results, we often need to rule out other causes that can produce the appearance of chapped lips. Based on what we see, we can tailor a treatment regimen to correct the problem. We would be more than happy to see you in our clinic to help with this. You can call our office to set up an appointment in Knoxville or Lenoir City at 865-450-9361. Our Knoxville office is located at 6516 Kingston Pike on Bearden Hill across the street from Calhoun’s Restaurant.

I have a lot of sebhoriac keratosis. (Spelling) A dermatologist removed some of them with a laser at St. Mary’s Hospital several years ago. Do you remove them with a laser? 22. February 2017

Thank you for getting in touch with us! Seborrheic keratoses are very common skin lesions, which are benign and do not turn into skin cancer. They can be removed with many techniques. Laser treatment for these is not a common treatment modality, so we do not use it. We most commonly treat these with cryotherapy as it is cost-effective for patients and has an excellent cosmetic result. We would be happy to see you in our clinic to help with these. I’m a new patient. I have an issue I originally thought might be scabies or crabs I might’ve caught on my cruise in September. After 3 trips to my doctor, and lots of home lice treatments, I still have little bites all over, mainly my chest hair, my legs/thighs, my back, and my head. I don’t see any nits or eggs or anything, and the doctor seems to think it might be folliculitis, but the antibiotics didn’t help. The bites themselves look more like whiteheads than actual bug bites, though. The dr said he’s seen bed bugs and scabies, and that’s not what this is. Just curious what it might be, and how much a visit would cost. I’m tired of itching and want to figure out what’s going on. 21. February 2017

Thank you for your question. I’m so sorry you’re having to deal with this. Itchy lesions are a major source of frustration for dermatology patients and can come about due to a number of causes, both external (as you mentioned) and internal. We would be more than happy to talk to you more about this in clinic. You can call our office to set up an appointment in Knoxville or Lenoir City at 865-450-9361. Our office staff can discuss pricing with you, taking into account your insurance. Our Knoxville office is located at 6516 Kingston Pike on Bearden Hill across the street from Calhoun’s Restaurant.

Hi, my name is Melissa and I have reddish brown splotches on both arms, they don’t itch or bother me other than my self confidence. I have been to two dermatologist and my doctor and all I got was ” change your soap” and ” it’s not skin cancer or melanoma”. I have had this problem now for eight years and I’m 39yrs old. I have tried selson blue shampoo, tea tree oil, hydrocortisone cream, fungus creme and laser treatment on one arm to see if that would work, but did not. Any suggestions, please advice? from Melissa 11. June 2016

Hi Melissa,

Thanks for your question, and I am sorry that you’ve been dealing with this problem for so long.  It’s very difficult to make a diagnosis without actually seeing what is going on.  Why don’t you make an appointment at either our Knoxville or Lenoir City Dermatology office so that we can do a thorough evaluation?  We’d love to see you!
